  • Angus - Boehm Operating Co LLC

Angus cattle (Aberdeen Angus) are a breed of cattle commonly used in beef production. They were developed from cattle native to the counties of Aberdeenshire and Angus in Scotland, and are known as Aberdeen Angus in most parts of the world.

They are naturally polled (do not have horns) and solid black or red, although the udder may be white. There have always been both red and black individuals in the population, and in the USA they are regarded as two separate breeds - Red Angus and Black Angus. Black Angus is the most popular beef breed of cattle in the United States, with 324,266 animals registered in 2005

  • Brangus - Boehm Cattle LLC

A Brangus is a hardy and popular breed of beef cattle, a cross between an Angus and a Brahman. An animal eligible for registration as a Brangus cattle is 5/8 Angus and 3/8 Brahman. Registered Red Brangus Cattle are solid red and naturally polled.

Red Brangus cattle combine the hardiness, disease resistance and unmatched maternal instincts of the Brahman breed with the superior carcass quality, fertility, maternal and milking ability of the Angus.

The breed is a blend of Brahman and Angus genetics. Because of the world’s varying environmental conditions and the varying goals and needs of cattleman, the organizers of the  American Red Brangus Association (ARBA) chose not to set blood percentages for registration.

This allows the cattle raiser to target the blood percentage necessary for his individual climate, more Brahman for arid and tropic climates or more Angus for colder regions. The Red Brangus breed has documented its ability to adapt from the harsh, cold climates of the Northwestern United States to the arid Southwest and humid Southeast.

  • Black Hided - Boehm Cattle Co

Black-hided. It’s the initial requirement for more than 80 beef brands certified by USDA.

That also means it’s the first limiting factor for supply of programs like the largest and longest-running of those: the Certified Angus Beef ® (CAB®) brand.

They are raised for their meat and are known for their composite qualities when crossed with other breeds, most notably Angus and Hereford cattle. The breed tends to be large muscled, with bulls weighing up to 1,100 kilograms (2,400 lb) and cows up to 900 kilograms (2,000 lb).

The breed was introduced in the southern US as early as the 1940's. It was the first popular breed after the English breeds and Brahmans. It was known to produce beef animals that had more red meat and less fat. The breed was often crossed with English breeds

  • Tiger Stripe - Boehm Cattle Co

    What is a tiger stripe?

“Tiger stripe” is a term used to describe the F1 cross of Hereford and Brahman because of the animal’s tiger-like striped brindle hair. The cross is traditionally known to combine the beefier Hereford of English descent with the more heat-tolerant Bos indicus Brahman.

    What’s the advantage?

These F1 tiger stripes are ideally suited to hot and humid climates. They are more heat tolerant and withstand that kind of climate better than many other breeds.

One of the biggest advantages, though, is longevity.  Ranchers know that the F1 female will outlive and be productive three to five years longer than a straight English animal because of the Brahman influence. Normally, you’ll get 10 to 12 years out of a straight-bred cow. but F1s may last up to 20 years.
